30DaysRantChallenge is another wave of clout chasing - Alexander Anthony, PR executive

In a chat with a PR executive, Alexander Anthony, he critiqued how social media and trends can sometimes distract the true goals of important movements. He also pointed out how individuals often get involved, not for the right reasons.

"I am among the minority of people who find this pointless, because these individuals didn’t lend their voices during the election period. We had plenty of middle-aged people talking about politicians during that time, but now, it seems like everyone’s just hopping on whatever’s trending. In Nigeria, clout chasing has almost become an identity. If something goes viral, people want in on it.
"Take the fuel price hike protests, for example. What started as a protest became an opportunity for looting after just a few days. They were not consistent with the protest.
"With the 30daysrantchallenge, don’t be surprised that these same people will dance to trending songs using the hashtag. I think it’s another wave of clout chasing that might not get to 30 days. In the end, we must get it right this time and not use it as an avenue for clout."
