A Nigerian mother of four, @miss.ijay, has opened up about what she felt after quitting her marriage of six years.

While keeping mum on the reason for quitting her marriage, the woman said she felt a burden ease from her shoulders.

The single mum noted that she had not felt this relieved in her life, adding that she just knew leaving her marriage marked the start of something amazing.

  • She added that she couldn't wait to embark on a journey of 'self re-discovery'. In her TikTok post, she wrote:

    "It was like a entire burden left my shoulders 🫠 I haven’t felt this much relief in my life…EVERRRRRRR😱 I just knew it was the start of something amazing and I couldn’t wait to get on this journey of SELF RE-DISCOVERY💯 I sha run go tint my hair fess."

    When asked when she quit her marriage, she replied in the comments section that it had been two years since she left her husband.

    Possible reasons for mother leaving her marriage

    The mother of four's video was shared on Wednesday, March 12, but she never mentioned if she was in Nigeria although she is Nigerian.

    Recent videos on TikTok showed some of the challenges she faced in her marriage.

    Another TikTok clip suggested she faced infidelity, financial abandonment, constant humiliation, and psychological torment in her past marriage.

    Experts' reasons for couples divorcing

    Nigerian experts have identified infidelity, cultural strains, financial challenges, and limited courtship as some of the reasons for divorce.

    A Nigerian lawyer, Bukola Ajayi said that 95% of people wanting divorce cited unfaithfulness as a reason for wanting to end things with their partners, Punch reports.

    According to the Helpline Foundation for the Needy, cultural stigma can also put a strain on a marriage as '75 per cent of divorce in marriages can be attributed to culture and tradition'.

    This issue becomes more intense when they are gender-related.

    Justice AbdulQadir Umar, a senior judge at the Area Court in Ilorin, noted that poverty is a big reason for divorce. He said that lack of money could make people misbehave, Pulse reports.

    Lady shares why she quit her marriage

    Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that another lady had shared why she quit her marriage.

    According to the lady, she was suffering and her ex-husband had turned her into a village girl.

    While noting that she was, she expressed joy that her failed marriage did not produce any kids.
